June 13, this year, Chen Chen visited Professor Yan Chongnian and exchanged a lot on the studies of Manchu and Manchu culture, etc. Yan Chongnian is Honored Director of Institute of Manchu, Beijing Academy of Social Sciences and Director of Beijing Manchu Association. For years he has been concentrated on Manchu history and it culture development and has won a reputation nationwide on Manchu.
In the visit, Professor Yan made an introduction to his years of research findings, works and Beijing Manchu Association and also the 6th International Seminar on Manchu Studies organized by him.
Chen Chen admired deeply for Professor Yan¡¯s 13 years of efforts in translating and annotating Manchu archive without ever being paid. He said that the institute has been focused on the development of Chinese culture and will provide financial support with his work. However solely relying on fund will not work, the institute will further explore with Professor Yan on how to transform research findings into a commercialized self-regulating circle, which is also the topics discussed by the institute.
After 2 hour¡¯s talk, Chen Chen adviced Yan to apply the publishing project of his book which has taken 13 years to complete to the institute as one needing specific funding. And the institute hoped to be engaged in the 7th Seminar of Manchu Studies to be held in 2007 as a financial supporter. In the end, Chen Chen sincerely invite Yan to be present on the 3rd International Forum on China Cultural Industry held in September and he accepted.
